What is system-on-a-chip?

SOC is an integrated circuit that contains all the circuits and components required by an electronic system on a single chip. It can be contrasted with a traditional computer system, which consists of many different components. For example, a desktop computer may have a CPU, video card, and sound card connected by different buses on the motherboard. SoC combines these components into a single chip.
