Xilinx supports Sony’s new generation of live-production video switchers

Sept. 30, 2021 – Xilinx today announced that its field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and adaptive system-on-chip (SoC) devices are powering a range of Sony electronics for professional audio and video (A/V) applications, including the latest XVS-G1 4K live production switcher. Celeris and Sony have joined forces to create the world’s most advanced audio and video products for filming and broadcasting live events around the world, leveraging their cutting-edge technologies.

Xilinx® Virtex® UltraScale+™ FPGAs with high-bandwidth memory (HBM) play a key role in the new XVS-G1 video switcher. The new XVS-G1 video switcher follows the features and functionality of the existing model but adds cutting-edge technology to enable enhanced visual processing for live events, supporting up to 24 channels of 4K UHD. The XVS-G1 will be the first broadcast video switcher to use Celeris HBM technology for live sporting events and other event deployments.

Xilinx is the semiconductor leader in the professional audio and video market. For more than two decades, Xilinx has been committed to providing flexible, differentiated, and standards-based solutions. These solutions combine software programmability, real-time video and audio processing, hardware optimization, and any-media connectivity to meet the needs of Sony’s professional audio and video systems.

The Xilinx technology has helped us enhance the real-time processing and audio/video routing capabilities of the new XVS-G1 switch,” said Koichi Yamanaka, senior general manager of Sony’s Media Solutions business unit. We adopted the Xilinx device because its architecture gave us the flexibility to customize and upgrade the features to meet rapidly changing market demands and to meet our customers’ specific product needs.”

In addition to the new switchers, the Xilinx devices are used in a variety of Sony’s professional solutions, including.

*VENICE full-frame digital cinema cameras

*FX9 full-frame 6K sensor camera

*BVM-HX310 31-inch 4K TRIMESTER HXTM professional main monitor

*HDC-5500 portable system camera with three 2/3-inch 4K CMOS sensors and HDCU-5500 camera control unit
