2.

What are the main application scenarios for intelligent high-side switches in automotive applications?

The main application scenarios for high-side switches in automobiles are summarised in three areas.

Electric heating, e.g. for seat heating, wiper heating, etc.

Power transmission is responsible for supplying power to peripheral devices, such as powering cameras and body control modules.

Power transmission, e.g. for horn control, powering start/stop coils, etc.

3.

When using an intelligent high-side switch in a vehicle, attention needs to be paid to the characteristics of the load. The high-side switch needs to match the type of load: resistive, inductive, and capacitive.

Of the three main load types, the purest is resistive, which has a more stable load characteristic.

Capacitive loads generate a large inrush current at start-up, but the actual operating current is often much less than the inrush current, so the design of current limiting protection for capacitive loads is a challenge.

"The most irascible is the inductive load, which is characterized by a strong release of energy at switch-off, generating a reverse electric potential that, if not handled correctly, can lead to devastating consequences for the switch. High-side switches need to be specially designed for inductive loads.
